First movie - Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves Reviews
This is the first movie i ever remember watching as a little kid. I grew up on this sh*t. After i watched it, and loved it my grampa went and bought me a little bow and arrow set. Anyway, after 15 years, my feelings on this movie haven't changed. I can still watch it anytime. And everytime, I feel like that little kid again. Its great. You aught to try it sometime. Kevin is great for this lead character.
How does he continue to get work? - Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves Reviews
A movie with so much potential completely destroyed by casting a no-talent as the hero. I'd like to shoot the person who told Kevin Costner that he could act. Couldn't they have gotten someone who would at least TRY an English accent? At least they got it right when they casted the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Poor robin - Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves Reviews
How to describe Robin Hood: Prince of Theives. This movie is enjoyable enough but not without major flaws. The camera angles, the cheesy lines and the weak props, that during the final fight scene fall over or are split in two as is they were glass. The acting .... oh my. The quality of scenes varies throughout. Kevin Costner who is usually wonderful either over acts, doesnt act enough or does alright. For instance the scene at his fathers grave swearing to avenge him is horrifically over done, as well as his speech to unite the outlaws in Sherwood. And these are only two examples. Mary Elizabeth Mastantonio, again a wonderful actress but is inconsistent as well. Alan Rickman slurs his speech as if he were drunk a few times and over does the evil tyrant routine. If you were to watch this movie let it be for Morgan Freeman, who is amazing in everything, and the woodsman who are the personality and humor in this movie. This is obvious premature directing work from Kevin Reynolds, who later created the astounding Count of Monte Cristo. Every director starts somewhere. This movie is good, sometimes, however they butchered the legendary stories that were Robin Hood: Prince of Theives.

One of costners last good films... - Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves Reviews
Next to "Dances With Wolves" and "Bull Durham," this is probably Kevin Costners best work. He did a kick ass job of keeping the Robin Hood story alive.
Characters all around - Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves Reviews
Morgan Freeman and Alan Rickman ought to thank someone for putting them in this movie, both got to present portrayals that are unique in film history.
Alan Rickman's "Do you mind?, I've just been married." is a classic line that carries the nature of the Sheriff of Nottingham to his trivial height.
Morgan Freeman gets to play a noble Moor, (pre 9/11 by 10 years), so it does not come off as patronizing.
Kevin, some say, seemed to phone it in, but he just let the other characters come to the fore.
The music which is a pop ballad was featured as the credits rolled and was very appropriate for the story even tough totally out of period.
